'Indian Miniatures' is series of small-scale works is comprised of sculptures and paintings in clay. They were made during and following an artist residency at Farm Studio in rural Rajasthan, India. The pieces depict scenes of everyday life in the village and the traditional artisans and craftspeople at work. The village of Andore, was historically a pottery village and the men wear red turbans to signify their pottery trade. The clay figures are modelled with local clay provided by the Chogoba family studio.

There is so much to see in the village, it changes every day and opens up gradually so that you discover more and more. The local women wear sarees of stunning colours and adornments. There are elaborate Jain temples and Hindu shrines on nearly every corner. ‘Wedding corridors’ appear as if by magic between the buildings like gateways to other worlds. Birds sing all day, cows wander, dogs sleep in the middle of the road and monkeys patrol and rule the rooftops.

Adopting the traditional miniature format, but using clay, these works are intimate, painted windows and sculpted dioramas that depict scenes of everyday life in the village. The ceramic works are evocative of the unique experience one has from being welcomed into the community there.
